The benefits of negative ions

In nature, both negative and positive ions are formed and coexist, and sometimes there are more negative ions in the air than positive ions and vice versa.

The air blowing over the Alps in spring, and the wind north of Los Angeles, and in Israel the wind blowing from the eastern desert contain a large amount of positive ions and when this wind blows, many cases of heart problems and asthma are reported. The same things happen in cities and around polluted streets, where the air contains many positive ions.

On the contrary, in forests, near waterfalls, and streams in the countryside, there are many negative ions in the air, which have many healthful benefits, and many diseases are cured through living in such environment.

  • People feel good in forests. This may be related to the production of serotonin.
  • One may experience more benefits if walks with bare feet, and it's partially because negative ions absorbed by the body can exit to the ground quickly so the body can absorb more negative ions. A certain cervical cancer patient claims her cancer was cured by this method.
  • Negative ions help relieve tiredness if applied when watching the TV or computer monitor.
  • The productivity of the workers in factories are higher when negative ion generators are put in place.
  • Some people claim that they can drink as much as 3 times more alcohol in forests and around waterfalls and not get drunk. This is one of the effects of negative ions.
  • Usually sanitariums are located in forests so the patients can enjoy the benefits of negative ions, such as reduced tension, improved blood circulation, better immune system, etc.
  • Poor blood circulation makes the skin dry and hard, but many cases that negative ions improve such conditions are observed. Many diabetics have complications such as loss of feet, blindness, kidney problems, erectile dysfunction. Improving blood circulation may prevent or reverse these complications.
  • Playing video games worsens blood circulation. Normally blood flows through the vessels fast but after playing video games for a while the blood comes to almost standstill. If it continues, the player may die of blood clots. But even in such case, a 15-minute exposure to negative ions makes the blood flow well again.
  • Negative ions have the effect to separate red blood cells from each other and prevent the formation of blood clots. Theoretically it means that negative ions may prevent the heart attack, which is caused in many cases by blood clots blocking blood vessels. But no clinical trial has been done and nothing can be said for sure.
  • Another way to observe the effect of negative ions is with a lattice. After negative ion exposure, red blood cells can flow through the tiny holes of a lattice easily, but when the blood is thick, the red blood cells get stuck in the holes and the blood can't flow.
  • Usually thick blood is related to food and free radicals, which are produced in large quantities by physical and mental stresses. Negative ions are considered to eliminate the free radicals both directly and indirectly. A free radical is a positive-charged oxygen molecule (lacks one electron) and this form makes it very unstable. About 2% (5% after intense exercise) of the oxygen we breathe in become free radicals. Our body produces antioxidants and eliminates most of the free radicals, but not all. These remaining free radicals attach to the cells and damage or mutate them, resulting in a variety of diseases and shortened life. Negative ions provide the electrons free radicals lack and neutralize them and turn them to useful oxygen.
